Animals Including Humans
This term we will be studying Animals Including Humans. Starting with a lesson about our circulatory system, we will delve into the three main parts of the system: the heart, blood vessels and blood. We will be exploring the parts of the heart and what its purpose is, as well as finding out what exactly is blood made of and why it is important. To bring the topic to life, we will also be exploring real pig hearts and dissecting them to see the valves, chambers and the blood vessels that feed the heart!
We will also be studying the significance of William Harvey and finding out what finding he made that changed the history of medicine; we all know one of our major local hospitals is named after him, but what exactly was it that he found out that makes him such a significant figure in Science?
Finally, we will be discussing how to live a healthy lifestyle. This will include looking at nutrition, water consumption and exercise, as well as drug use. Are there any good drugs or are they all bad? What impact do the above things have on our hearts and bodies, and how can we ensure we stay fit and healthy?
