Forces

In term 5, we will revisit our forces learning from year 3 and expand our knowledge through interesting investigations. We will make links from our science lessons to our topic of roller coasters as we explore how they work and how they stay on the tracks.

  •  Explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object
  • Identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces
  • Recognise that some mechanisms, including levers, pulleys and gears, allow a smaller force to have a greater effect

We will apply our forces learning when building our very own drop rides at the end of term. How will we use levers, pulleys and gears? How will different forces help us when designing, creating and testing our products?
