Maths in Term 1

In term 1, we will be starting by looking at place value and understanding how many a number represents.  We will be adding and subtracting numbers bridging 10, 100 and composing and calculating three-digit numbers.

As always, we will be encouraging the children to use accurate mathematical vocabulary in their learning including the words hundreds, tens, ones, place value.

We will continue to use a range of manipulatives and representations to introduce, practise and consolidate learning.

Lessons will continue to contain a mixture of fluency, problem-solving and mathematical reasoning and make explicit links to real-life contexts.

We will practise our focus Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) daily along with other basic maths facts such as doubles to 5 and 10, number bonds to 5, 10 and 20 and revisit the 2, 4, 5 and 10 times tables.

Our focus KIRF for this term is:

I know number bonds to 100.
