The school is situated just outside the main town of Dover, with over 150 years of history.
Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our pupils to be confident, happy citizens.
River is an inclusive school. Our children are valued as unique individuals; we celebrate diversity and respect children regardless of ability, gender, ethnicity or religion. We aim to sustain a happy, caring, supportive and positive learning community where each child can achieve success.
We aim to provide learning opportunities that are challenging, interesting and exciting - creating a joy and thirst for knowledge. We recognise that children need to take responsibility for their own learning and encourage them as thinkers who question and are inquisitive to find out more and develop their own skills.
The climate of our school is positive, with a calm and purposeful atmosphere where children can feel relaxed and able to extend and develop their potential whilst growing in self confidence, respecting themselves and others.
We are committed to working in partnership with parents and welcome our parents and carers to take advantage of the many informal and formal opportunities to enhance the home-school relationship.
We are proud of having been awarded a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating in our latest inspection in January 2025, recognising how our children successfully contribute to the school and wider community and our broad and ambitious curriculum.
Prospective parents are invited to visit the school during the working day so that you can meet both staff and children and see at first-hand what the school has to offer your child. Our office staff will be only too happy to arrange an appointment.
