Maths

In Maths this term we will continue to consolidate key number-fact learning through daily maths starters.  We will practise counting in different steps and will work on learning and applying times table facts.  

Some children will continue to work on learning and applying times table facts whilst others continue to practise and learn number bond facts as well as skip counting forwards and backwards in jumps of 2, 3, 5 and 10. Some of the videos and songs that we use in class can be accessed below for further practise at home, whilst they are new to your child the speed can be slowed down in each of the video settings if required.  To support the children in becoming more fluent and faster in their recall, encourage children to keep working on short, daily practice on TTRS and/or Maths Shed - just five to ten minutes per day can help to make a huge difference! 

Our main maths learning will begin with a focus on geometry, consolidating our learning from last term and applying our learning.  We will work towards being able to:  

  • Identify and describe the properties of 3-D shapes, including the number of edges, vertices and faces
  • Compare and sort common 2-D and 3-D shapes and everyday objects

    We will then return to the topic of addition and subtraction, where we will work towards being able to:
  • Add and subtract numbers using concrete objects, pictorial representations, and mentally, including: two two-digit numbers

    We will work on building our fluency skills, covering the use of some formal written methods, as well as applying our skills to solving worded problems and reasoning about numbers when adding and subtracting.
