What on earth is happening beneath my feet?

This term in topic, we will be  looking at our natural world, including the layers of the earth, hills, mountains and volcanoes.

Through the use atlases and google earth, we will locate some of these, exploring tectonic plates, to answer the question ‘Why and where do we get volcanoes?’

We look in detail at the different types of volcanoes, the features and the effects of a volcanic eruption and as well as the causes of an earthquake.

 Year 3 will head back to 79AD and look at the eruption of Mount Vesuvius which buried the town of Pompeii. Considering these events and more recent eruptions around the world, we will think about why people choose to live near a volcano and after looking at evidence, judge whether it is a risk worth taking.
