Communication and language is a fundamental skill your child will learn in Reception. In Term 1 your child will:

Listening, attention and understanding:

• Understand why listening is important.
• Listen and follow simple instructions.
• Begin to understand why and how questions.
• To engage with story times, joining in with repeated phrases and actions.

Speaking:

• Talk to familiar adults.

• Start a conversation with a friend or adult.

• Talk in front of a small group.

• Retell a simple past event in the correct order.
