In maths this term we will continue to consolidate key number-fact learning through daily maths starters.  We will practise counting in different steps and will work on learning and applying times table facts.  

Some children will continue to work on learning and applying times table facts whilst others continue to practise and learn number bond facts as well as skip counting forwards and backwards in jumps of 2, 3, 5 and 10. Some of the videos and songs that we use in class can be accessed below for further practise at home, whilst they are new to your child the speed can be slowed down in each of the video settings if required.  To support the children in becoming more fluent and faster in their recall, encourage children to keep working on short, daily practice on TTRS and/or Maths Shed - just five to ten minutes per day can help to make a huge difference! 

Our main maths learning will focus on addition and subtraction.  We will work towards being able to:

• recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20 fluently, and derive and use related facts up to 100

• Halve and double 2 digit numbers

• add and subtract numbers using concrete objects, pictorial representations, and mentally, including: a two-digit number and ones and a two-digit number and tens

• show that addition of two numbers can be done in any order (commutative) and subtraction of one number from another cannot

• recognise and use the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction and use this to check calculations and solve missing number problems

• solve problems with addition and subtraction: using concrete objects and pictorial representations, including those involving numbers, quantities and measures and applying their increasing knowledge of mental and written methods

• solve simple problems in a practical context involving addition and subtraction of money of the same unit, including giving change
