River Primary School
Welcome to River Primary School’s web pages. We hope you enjoy your visit and that you find the information and links provided here to be useful.
River is an inclusive school. Our children are valued as unique individuals; we celebrate diversity and respect children regardless of ability, gender, ethnicity or religion. We aim to sustain a happy, caring, supportive and positive learning community where each child can achieve success.
We aim to provide learning opportunities that are age appropriate, broadly based, challenging, interesting and exciting, so creating a joy and thirst for knowledge. We recognise that children need to take responsibility for their own learning and encourage them as thinkers who question and are inquisitive to find out more and develop their own skills.
The climate of our school is positive, with a calm purposeful atmosphere where children can feel relaxed and able to extend and develop their potential whilst growing in self confidence, respecting themselves and others.
We are committed to working in partnership with parents and welcome our parents and carers to take advantage of the many informal and formal opportunities to enhance the home-school relationship.
Prospective parents are invited to visit the school during the working day so that you can meet both staff and children and see at first-hand what the school has to offer your child. Our office staff will be only too happy to arrange an appointment.
About River Primary School...
The school is situated in a popular residential area, just outside the main town of Dover. The school is fully inclusive and attracts children from the local community. Parents and governors are very interested and supportive of the school and play an active part in all aspects of our continuing development.
The school roll is approximately 420 with children organised into fourteen mixed ability classes. We also have a Specialist Resource Provision class for 12 children with speech and/or language impairments. These children spend much time each day in their mainstream class with their peers. We are fortunate to have a vibrant and energetic staff team who support each other fully, sharing ideas and best practice.
Our site includes interesting buildings with quite an extensive layout due to a number of extensions to the original building, which dates back to 1870. We have sets of laptops for class use and a very busy and well-used music room. Interactive boards are a feature in all classrooms ensuring that ICT successfully supports learning.
The school prides itself on its positive approach to development in order to achieve the best outcomes for our children.
Our most recent full Ofsted inspection was in November 2013. The inspection was very positive, judging the school to be outstanding in all aspects of provision. The school is not complacent about its position. Very high quality provision is sustained due to our constant drive for improvement, our dedication to continuing professional development and our recognition that the landscape of education is ever changing. We never stand still!
