Uses of everyday materials

 

By the end of the term the children will be able to: 

  • Describe the ways solid shapes can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.
  • Talk about how people choose materials because of their properties. 

  • Explain that a plastic bag is bendy, smooth and stretchy  
  • Describe glass as transparent (clear), hard, smooth and waterproof. 
  • Understand brick is rough, strong, opaque and dull. 
  • Say paper is translucent, flexible and not waterproof  
  • Understand cardboard is rough, dull, opaque and not waterproof. 
  • Talk about tinfoil as a shiny, bendy, waterproof and opaque material.
