This term we will be studying Evolution and Inheritance. Starting with recapping our learning about Mary Anning in Year 3, we will be looking at the four types of fossils, and learning how scientists study changes in fossils from different time periods to see how specific species have changed over time.

We will also look at variation within a species, and see how these environmental and inherited variations impact living things, as well as adaptation, where we will learn about how animals and plants adapt in order to survive in their environments.

Focusing on Darwin's theory of evolution, we will study natural selection learn about how this has led to evolution, before looking at the controversial topic of selective breeding, where we will discuss the issues surrounding the practice.

Finally, we will be out and about in our local area studying plant life, and seeing how plants have adapted to thrive in River.
